Extend ring time on iPhone

“Wait! I’m nearly there…”

This is a really common request I have from clients - The complaint is their iPhone does not ring for long enough so they miss the call or it goes to voicemail too quickly. This is a carrier setting rather than an iPhone setting as such. The example below is an iPhone on Telstra:

Extend ring time (Telstra + iPhone)

  1. Open the Phone app → Keypad

  2. Dial one of these and press Call:

  • 30 seconds (max): **61*101**30#

You should get a confirmation like “Call Forwarding Registration was successful.”

If it doesn’t work on iPhone

Telstra notes that to extend ring time beyond 15 seconds on Apple devices, you may need to turn Live Voicemail off:

  • Settings → Apps → Phone → Live Voicemail → Off

Other Solutions:

Apple Watch - if you have an Apple Watch you can answer the call directly, and if you don’t like pretending you’re Dick Tracy, just tell the caller you’re finding your phone and then you tap on the glowing call icon (green) and continue the conversation on the iPhone. Easy.

Live Voicemail - if you do have this relatively new feature turned on, and if the person is leaving a message you can read the transcript live and still choose to answer the call (only if you choose not to turn it off for extending #rings from above)
